Lucky Come Home: A Public Access Mystery

Fourteen-year-old Maggie Chandler volunteers at the Degoya County Humane Society and needs the Latchkeys to come get their dog—even though they do not own one. She leads them from their house at 26 Rodenbecker Street to the Humane Society, where they gaze through the fencing to see an animal with dark, matted fur and lips pulled back tightly against its mouth, presenting the impression of a perpetual grin.

Around the animal's neck is a collar with a tag reading:

LUCKY
